People often ask how I picked my kids names. I wish I had an amazing story for each one but I really don't. Their middle names tend to have more meaning with the exception of Scottlynn, as you will see later. We also have many nicknames for each kid in our family. Those might be more interesting stories.
With Christian, we just liked the name. Of coarse it has a great meaning, follower of Christ. His middle name is Kent, the same his dad's and grandpa's middle name. His nicknames are "Chichy" (chi-chee), "Chicheroni","Chich","bubba"(by his mom only), but mostly "C". When Kennedy was little she couldn't say Christian so she called him "Chichen", hence all the variations of "Chich"
I just loved the name Kennedy. That's it. It is just a great name. Her middle name is May named after her amazing mother who shares the same middle name. Her friends mostly call her "Kenny" (thanks Mr. Bradford), but we call her "Tinny bones" (Gary made up the song from "Dem bones, dem bones, dem Tinny Bones". Weird, I know), "Kendy", "Kendy Lou Who", "Kendy Cakers" but mostly "Ken". Occasionally she is called the dragon queen but not so much lately, thank goodness.
Scottlynn actually has a good story behind her first name. Her grandmother's maiden name is "Scott" and I have always loved the "lynn" names. So we just thought of "Scottlynn" and fell in love with it instantly. Her middle name is Paige which I just loved. Her nicknames are "Lady Bug" (When we told the other kids I was pregnant we used this stuffed lady bug that you could put baby lady bugs in its tummy to explain it to them. The entire time I was pregnant they told people that I had a lady bug in my tummy. This was her nickname before she was even born.),"Lotty Bug","Lotty Lou", occasionally "Rotlynn", but mostly "Lotty".
Again, I wish I had a great story but I just loved the name Boston. His middle name is Tom. This is a very special name to me. My grandpa was named Tom, actually we had a hard time finding out what his real name was when he died. I think it was actually John Miton, anyway, he joined the marines as Tom, Married as Tom, filed taxes as Tom so that is his name to me. I thought it would be special to have a great grandchild named after him with the official birth name. My grandpa Tom has always been my hero. He gave his life to save another person and that is the ultimate sacrifice. Boston's nicknames are "Zubzie", "Zububzicle", "Booger", "Bossy" but mostly "Boss".
We also call them "Eennie" (Christian, because he is such a runt), "Meanie" (Kennedy, for obvious reasons), "Mine'ee"(Scottlynn, really just because it is the next word in the phrase, she is actually very good at sharing), and "Moe" (The kids say because he is like "Moe" on The Three Stooges).

The dentist
I know, what a creative title.
Tuesday we went to the dentist. We scheduled an appointment 6 months ago (bad idea) and when they called to confirm it, we had to reschedule. So today was the newly appointed time. I wrote it on my calendar, I planned all other events around it. I could not flake out again. We walked in the door to the office and they said,"What are you doing here?".
"Ummmm.... we are here for our appointment...I think."
Although the call was made the appointment was never written down. This brings to mind a favorite Seinfeld episode in which a car reservation was made but the company could not hold the reservation. Isn't the really important part of taking a reservation the holding of it? Just as keeping an appointment is really as, if not more, important as taking the appointment. Well, they were able to squeeze the kids in between appointments and I will have to go another day for my appointment.
Now I must note, this is not at all typical of my dentist office. I LOVE my dentist office. This is Lisa (the one who made the appointment but somehow didn't write it down....completely unlike her). She is a little camera shy.
Now because of the scheduling issues and having to do the kids consecutively instead of concurrently it took longer than usual which could have cause much boredom. But once again, Lisa saved the day. She entertained the kids (and me) for over an hour while they stood in front of her computer and morphed their bodies into weird shapes. She has a camera and software on her computer that does awesome things like that. She might e-mail me the pictures but she has never e-mailed before. Yes you heard right. She doesn't even know how to e-mail! I hope she sees this and figures out how to e-mail those pictures. They were soooo funny! Here is one I took of Scottlynn with my camera.
By the end of the appointment we were all laughing so hard. It is always a blast to go to the dentist. The one downer...Scottlynn has one cavity. Drat! So we will be back for her filling as well as my appointment.
Here is Dr. Robinson with his crazy glasses for cavity hunting. Boston is looking like, "I'm trying to be polite but what the heck are you wearing?".
Here are the kids with Dr. Dean Robinson.
Now here is the really cool part. Every time we go to the dentist we have a family tradition of going out to Los Hermanos and sharing their HUGE nachos (with chicken) and look what kind Lisa gave us....Los Hermanos gift certificates. We were running a little late to stop for lunch (we actually had frosty's for lunch....I know, I'm a GREAT mom) but we went there for dinner. Thanks Lisa! (note: Not everyone will receive these. I think it was for the scheduling mix up, but I still highly recommend coming to this office. They are wonderful)

Ahhhh the peace.
Okay, that may be a mean title but seriously my house was so quiet today. I cleaned and it actually STAYED clean. Boston got to watch Playhouse Disney which he has not been able to watch for 3 months due to bossy older siblings. My friend came over for the day and we worked on some projects together and had a delicious lunch of macaroni and cheese with Boston. (That sort of sounded like Boston was the side dish...hm, that's not what I meant.) Okay mac-n-cheese is kind of gross but Boston loves it and his vote is the only one that mattered today. I was thrilled when they got home and that feels good to be thrilled that they are home. Here are their cute pictures before the first day of school.
Here they are worshiping the perfect strawberry from our garden. What weirdo's

The Mist of Doom.
This is our cat Misty. We named her Misty because she looks like the mist...whhhooooo. Her nick names are Mystify and The Mist of Doom.
When she was a kitten she would pounce on you when you were in bed so we came up with a song for her.
This is what she looked like when we got her. Ohhhh. Isn't she cute?
She loved to sleep on the broom of all places.
We only washed her in the washing machine once, by accident of coarse. And then there was the time she was laying on top of the garage door while it was open. We left to go to a friends house for family home evening and closed the garage. She didn't quite get down in time and was sucked through the top of the garage. It closed firmly with her tail and one leg out the front of the garage and the rest of her body in the garage. Unfortunately we didn't even see her and drove away. A neighbor did find her but not for about 40 minutes. I thought that would be the end but after a night of limping, she was back to her ferocious self. So I figure she is down to about 7 lives left. I thought she had learned her lesson but every time a humming bird gets stuck in the garage, she is back up there again. They usually get away but the other day I found this on the hood of my car.

This is kitty barf mixed with humming bird feathers. Ya, we are some classy drivers folks.
She is simply another member of the family. Here she is guarding our house from wild creatures. We love you Misty.

The honeymoon is over...thank goodness.
Getting married was one of the best choices I have ever made. I loved Gary as I do now but I must admit our honeymoon was a disaster. Now get your mind out of the gutter. I am not referring to that. That has never been disastrous. This will be a slightly long read, but worth every minute of it. I have put *'s in place of my last name at some futile attempt to keep some part of my identity to myself on-line.
Just after our reception in Rexburg, we traveled to Idaho Falls to stay in the honeymoon sweet at what was then, the Ameritel. It had a jacuzzi in our room and was very cool. Upon arrival, I was terribly sick from the long day and had to rest for a 1/2 hour. Poor Gary was so patient. Okay, so they happened to be out of the complimentary baskets they were supposed to leave but hey, a small disappointment. They did leave some bubble bath and sparking cider (ohhhhhh how romantic). We we couldn't get the stupid cap off the cider and accidentally broke the top of the bottle. I got glass in my foot that didn't come out for over a year.
The next day we went to stay at my sisters apartment in Salt Lake City while she stayed with a friend. Did I mention we were DIRT POOR. We were in love and didn't really care where we stayed as long as we were together. Upon arrival we notice a man relieving himself in the front yard across the street. I had only been married one day and was not quite used to seeing, well, you get the idea. Anyway, the next morning the swat team arrives and takes down the house across the street. Somewhat entertaining to watch although we did stay low in the windows and probably should have moved away completely so we didn't get shot. Young, in love and foolish, what can I say?
For dinner we went to the old Salt Lake City Jailhouse to eat. It was really cool and expensive, and a piece of history. There was this old sheriff who would wander around the room and serenade people. When he got to our table he stopped and sang 3 songs. Each one was about how he had fallen in love with a beautiful woman who took his money and his dog and caught the first train out of town. By the end of the third we are just thinking, "Can you just leave us alone before we hate each other?".
On to the big metropolis of Delta, Utah. The next few days were spent at my grandparents house (they were still staying with my mom). Really, what does it matter where you stay? I mean after all we were just honeymooning anyway. First of all, my grandpa tells us about a path we can take his four-wheeler on to go out to some sweet trails. Of coarse he insists on his directions, even though they were WRONG! So we drive for several miles on the bumpiest dirt road I have ever seen only to have the bar on the trailer BREAK OFF and send the entire trailer and four-wheeler FLYING. We sort of got it back together but the trailer was broken right next to the hitch so Gary had to keep one leg on the truck and one on the trailer, and hold it on while I drove on this terribly bumpy road. If I went too slow he couldn't pull the trailer over the bump so I HAD to go fast. One wrong bump and I would have run over Gary. Gary held on and I didn't run him over. No, we found a different way to end up in the E.R.
After a hard day's work of hauling a stupid trailer and four-wheeler from the middle of the desert we were hungry. Not in the mood for a nice restaurant we grabbed some food from McDonald's (at the time a recent addition to the booming metropolis) and headed back to the grandparents. Now in the desert, you can get thirsty. I mean REALLY thirsty. Especially exerting a lot of physical energy. That is to say, we took the four-wheeler out to the dirt bike path behind my grandparents house. Sheesh people! Get your mind out of the gutter already. This is just where we should have ridden to begin with. Anyway, Gary comes in the house and reaches in the fridge to get a cold drink of water. He, being the gentleman that he is, drinks directly from the jug. Yes, in my grandparents house. Nice.
Immediately he begins to foam at the mouth and is spitting in the sink yelling,"What is in this thing?" Gary then proceeds to vomit up foam profusely. I vaguely remember my grandpa mentioning something about hydrogen peroxide in the fridge. So I call 911.
Operator: 911 whats your emergency?
Me: My fian.... I mean my husband drank hydrogen peroxide and is throwing up foam!
What is your name?
Amidey Hhhhhhhhh A*******.
What?
Well, it was Hersh and now it's A*******. I am on my honey moon.
Congratulations.
Thank you. Um I think he's dying and I am not ready to be a widow so could you help me?
Why did he drink Hydrogen peroxide?
Such a good question. I then proceed to tell her that my grandpa takes two drops in a glass full of water for his back.
What percentage is it?
I don't know. He wrote it on the bottle but his hands are shaky and now the ink is all smeared all over our hands.
You will need to call him and find out.
So now I proceed to call home (ug! Calling home on my honeymoon) to ask him what percent the hydrogen peroxide is. Mind you they have a pulse phone so for every number I push I have to wait for that many clicks. Click, click click click click click click click click, click, click etc.
Mom, Hi. Gary drank that hydrogen peroxide in grandpa's fridge can you find out what percentage it is?
Mom: Why did he do that?
Mom, please just ask. He's sort of dying here.
Dad? Gary drank that hydrogen peroxide in your fridge do you know what percentage it was?
Grandpa: Why did he do that?
I don't know but what percentage is it?
36% (normal household use is 3%)
So I call back 911 who makes me call poison control (that's a 1-800 number. click click click), who congratulates me on my new marriage and then makes me call back 911 (click click click)
During all of this my sister calls at one point to check up on the happy couple.
Kacie? Can I call you back? The ambulance is on it's way and I need to check on Gary.
I will not give you the meaningless details like the ambulance driver being a Harley chick or the very SLOW cop who lead me in my car to the hospital.
Well Gary didn't die, just fried his insides. And do you know what saved his life? The fact that he ate like a horse before he drank it and the food absorbed most of it.
The rest of the honeymoon was pretty uneventful. Grandma's friend called us every 15 minutes starting at 6 am to tell us of various activities in the area, like driving two hours to see the pig farm. It's an oil road all the way you know. She later died of Alzheimer's. Then there was the power outages which shouldn't matter too much on your honeymoon unless your husband fried his insides.
We stayed the last night in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. That was wonderful other than we almost didn't get home because the pass was snowed in. Mind you we were married June 2 and this was a week later. I have always wanted to write into some talk show and see if I could score a free second honeymoon but then you hear of people who had honeymoons during hurricanes and tsunamis and I realize I should be grateful. Maybe this is why we have always been such homebodies.

This is a fun little tag that I was given quite a while ago and actually forgot about. I tag Karrianne, Susan, Nathan, Megan, Jaren, Hannah, Annika, Isabel, Beckam, Nathaniel, Lilly, Issac, Nick, Sam, Peyton and Blake. I picked kids of all ages this time. Why is it I can never figure out the letters they want you to put when making a comment on someone else's blog. I type in exactly what they look like and then I get that stupid little warning that basically says, "No you idiot. Type the letters EXACTLY as they are written". I DID! Why can't you just put a normal word on there so I can figure out what word I am supposed to be writing. Why not frizbee or gigantic or BARCALOUNGER! Oh no. It has to be figienpnl or gxbids. Maybe it's because it is 3:30 AM and I can't see straight. Hmmmm...I could be onto something here.

Flashback to the past. Homies
Wednesday, August 6, 2008
"Dude" I own that word
In our crazy family we all have words that we "own". This means, it is a word that you use a lot. It can also be used in a sentence at random, depending on the word. For example, my word is "dude". I say this word about 20 times a day...or more. I love that word. I call my kids "dude", I shout it out when I am excited about something "DUDE!". I use it when something crappy happens,"dude" (said very calmly). Kennedy has morphed it into "dude no dude" said with a valley girl accent. Sort of like, "way no way". So my word is "dude".
Boston's word is "booger". He just shouts it out at random. Sometimes he calls someone it but mostly just says it just to be funny. "booger! That's my word"
Scottlynn's word is "freakishly". As in "Mom. This dinner is freakishly delicious" "Thank you"
Kennedy's word is "Peeps". "Peeps" is not refering to those nasty, sparkly yellow marshmallows you eat, or rather throw away, at Easter. This would be used in place of the word 'people' or when referencing people. For example: "All you peeps come in here" or " I just love you peeps"
Boston says,"Hey look all you peeps...I mean, look all you boogers. Hee hee hee."
Christian's word is a sort of three way tie. He wants it to be "burnage" and he uses that one quite a bit, but his biggest words are "actually" and "technically". This is mainly because he is a 12 year old boy who knows EVERYTHING. I might say, "Isn't the blue water beautiful?". And he would follow it up with, "technically, the water is clear and is simply reflecting the blue sky". "Oh right"."Burnage" would be used when Christian is right about anything, he would shout out,"Burnage!"
Gary's word is the mother of all words, that right, "BARCALOUNGER"
Barcalounger: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Barcalounger is a type of recliner made in the United States of America. It was introduced by the Barcolo Manufacturing Company of Buffalo, NY which eventually became the Barcalounger Company. The chairs are currently produced in North Carolina.

This is a barcalounger, and that little handle to put up the foot rest up is a "barcathrottle". This word is almost never used in it's proper form in our house and yet it is said quite often. For example, "Dad? What are we doing today?" "BARC ALOUNGERRRRRR!!!" Notice that little pause after the "barc"? That is important for effect.
So what are your words? If you haven't picked one yet, you really should. Feel free to take one of ours.

Flashback to the past. Boston's graduation
Boston's graduation from Just Imagine Pre-School (Spring 2008)

Speaking his little part in the program, "Do you know Miss Tiffany's class? Here is a song for all of our names." It was supposed to be '...a song to learn all of our names' but he always shortened it.
Look at that little devil. Can't you just see the hyperactivity flowing from him?

Thanks Miss Tiffany for an amazing year. He had a blast!

Flashback week
Okay, so other than our insane trip to the movies, it was a rather un-eventful week so I am having a flashback week. I am really, REALLY bad at scrap booking so I am posting some of my favorite flashbacks as I go along. Ya, I am sort of 13 years behind (well not completely, I did do one scrapbook) so I need to do a little catching up. I hope to even scan some pictures in from my pre-digital days, at some point. I'm not quite that ambitious yet. In fact this is something I plan on continuing, well.....forever I guess, or until I am caught up. If anything great happens I will throw in a new post along the way. Hope you all enjoy these little blasts from our past.

I don't mean to grope you, It just that I'm blind.
Yesterday we were invited to go to the free movie with some friends. Apparently every summer there is a free movie each week that you can go see during the day. Yesterday was the movie The Incredibles. We were running a tad late and my friend called me to tell me the movie just started and she was saving us seats and to look for her. Luckily we were walking in from the parking lot so I said we'd be right there.
When we walked in the theater I couldn't see a thing. I mean NOTHING!!! So I called her on her phone thinking maybe she could give me some sort of direction. I knew if I could just get close to her I could see well enough to find our seats. Instead of answering she just held up he phone so I could see the lights. Yes! I started heading in that direction with my three kids and my mom (Kennedy had 4H) .
As we got closer none of us could see ANYTHING. NOTHING!!! I mean I could hear her talking right at my face and I could not even see her. So I told her, "we can't even see in here, I mean I am BLIND, where should we go?". She said that there were 4 seats behind her and a couple isle seats. So we are all feeling our way around for the seats behind her. I'm thinking,'If I can just sit down, I could even put a kid on my lap until my eyes adjust'. I even tried to use my cell phone for a light but it didn't even help at all. So here we are feeling for the four seats but there were only two so my entire family goes along groping the poor people as they are trying to watch the movie and we are saying,"Where am I? Where are you? Is that you? OH! SO SORRY."
Eventually as children start calling out, "I found a seat!" I just said "Stay where ever you are until your eyes adjust, just sit ANYWHERE!" My eyes were trying to focus so hard I could literally feel my pupils quivering. It took about 15 minutes for me to be able to see anything and after about 30 minutes I was just dying to realize that everyone could see us totally clearly. We must have looked soooooo stupid. I realized after my eyes adjusted that my cell phone light would have been terribly bright to anyone who's eyes had already adjusted, which was basically everyone else in the theater. By the time our eyes were all adjusted and I could see well enough to all sit together I was too embarrassed and I didn't want to cause anymore ruckus so we all just sat apart for the entire movie.
Overall, I think a free movie is a great idea anytime my only recommendation is DON'T GO LATE!!!
By the way, when we left my eyes wanted to sink into my head, the light outside once again made me BLIND!
